Why are my gums separating from my teeth?


Gums and teeth are attached to each other like a hand in glove. Gums that are tightly attached around the teeth with no redness or swelling are considered to be healthy gums. But some people might have large spaces in between their gums and teeth. Large spaces present in between the gums and teeth is a sign of unhealthy gum. 

 Gum disease is the most likely cause for the gums to separate from the teeth. Food particles can get accumulated in between our teeth and gums if we do not maintain good oral hygiene. This trapped food particles can cause a bacterial gum infection or gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can cause the gums to separate from our teeth.
